Holland, MI - Republican Gubernatorial candidate Pete Hoekstra impressed the crowd at the Bay Area Republican candidate debate this evening in Birch Run. He was the clear winner, demonstrating a clear conservative vision for Michigan and a strong grasp of the facts.
"I enjoyed the event this evening. It provided an opportunity for me to articulate what Michigan will look like under a Hoekstra administration. And it provided a clear opportunity to talk directly to Republican primary voters who are looking for someone who has the experience and guts to turn Michigan around," Hoekstra said.
Hoekstra presented a strong set of responses to questions dealing with jobs and economic development. He also explained in detail how Michigan's tax structure needs to change by reducing taxes and making government smaller. He specifically detailed his record of supporting tax cuts, protecting the second amendments, and standing up for states rights.
"I can promise this; under a Hoekstra administration, the tax burden on Michigan citizens will be less than it is today and government will be smaller. I have a long and proud record of supporting tax cuts and will bring my conservative government philosophy to Lansing," Hoekstra said.
"At a time when so many Michigan voters are looking for a different direction, I felt this event was crucial in allowing me as a candidate to outline my vision," Hoekstra said. "Unfortunately, two of my competitors didn't feel this event or the Mid-Michigan and Tri-Cities region was important enough to appear on the stage with the rest of us."
