Don't Vote Alone! TODAY is the Day to Vote for Pete Hoekstra in Michigan

Need to know where to vote? Go to this website, complete the "Search for Voter Information" box and click "Search" for the name and address of your polling location. Let's put Pete on the Job for MI: https://webapps.sos.state.mi.us/mivote/

State of the race: In the last days of this primary campaign, the field has been narrowed down to three candidates who all have a chance to win on Tuesday. Pete Hoekstra, Mike Cox, and Rick Snyder are all in a position to win this race. As most of you know, Michigan has had Democrat Jennifer Granholm running our state over the last 8 years, and many people in the usually blue Michigan are ready to vote for a Republican in November. In the polling that has been done, a generic republican candidate beats a democratic candidate by huge margins. However, Mike Cox’s campaign has been boosted by Mike Huckabee’s endorsement which has helped him get through the scandal that has cast a shadow over his entire campaign from the start. Democrats across the whole state want Mike Cox to win because his baggage will make him the easiest to beat in November. Rick Snyder is a rich outsider who didn’t attend most of the debates and bankrolled the majority of his campaign. He is an unknown who only has a chance to win this race because of the enormous amount of money he has spent on the campaign. He is suspected of being socially liberal and economically conservative, but his lack of legislative experience makes it hard to know for sure.

Pete is the candidate we want to win for sure and we don’t have any more time left to wait and hope he wins. We need to help him NOW! As you can see here, Mitt has been working hard to help Pete and should Pete win, Michigan will be forever grateful. Michigan will finally have a conservative governor!

How can you help?
1. Support Pete Hoekstra on Facebook and invite your friends to do the same.

2. Spread this post to every Mitt supporter you know using every social network you have an account with.

3. Text as many people in Michigan as you can a reminder to vote for Hoekstra.

4. VOTE and bring some voters with you to vote for Pete as well!

Coast to Coast Newspapers Statewide Agree Hoekstra Best Choice For Michigan

Dear Friends,

I am so proud to tell you today about the statewide newspaper endorsements that our campaign for governor received today. All across the state, our message of electing a strong and fiscally conservative governor to lead Michigan is resonating. And today, the Detroit Free Press, Grand Rapids Press and Muskegon Chronicle all endorsed Pete in his bid to become Governor of Michigan!

From coast to coast newspapers agree that Pete has the experience and ability to make tough decisions and find real solutions for our state, starting from day one.

The Detroit Free Press said:

“The GOP's best candidate is Pete Hoekstra, the congressman from Holland who has represented Michigan's conservative 2nd District since 1993. Hoekstra is a Republican's Republican -- staunchly pro-business and anti-abortion; skeptical of government regulation and defensive of state authority over federal imposition. …

Pete “has a creative streak and knows how to stretch a dollar -- useful skills in tight fiscal times that are likely to be with state government for a while. Citing his traditionally penurious Dutch background, Hoekstra is fond of saying his heritage taught him ‘how to make a penny squeal.’ …

“The GOP's best candidate is Pete Hoekstra, the congressman from Holland who has represented Michigan's conservative 2nd District since 1993.But Hoekstra separates himself from other GOP hopefuls in the way he'd approach his agenda.”

The Grand Rapids Press said:

“Mr. Hoekstra has shown that he fully absorbed the lessons of his first insurgent campaign: stay in touch with the folks back home. He would be equally responsive to citizens of Michigan as governor. As a lawmaker, Mr. Hoekstra has a solid record of fiscal conservatism, something the state needs more than ever right now. The former Herman Miller executive would seek to create an environment welcoming to business by streamlining regulations and reducing taxes. …

“His record in Congress suggests he would be able to work with Democrats, and wouldn’t hesitate to criticize fellow Republicans if he saw the need. As chair and then ranking Republican of the House Intelligence Committee, Mr. Hoekstra was a vocal critic of President Bush’s attempts to exclude Congress in major intelligence decisions.”

The Muskegon Chronicle said:

“Pete Hoekstra of Holland is the candidate with the experience and the background Michigan needs. His 18 years as a Congressman representing West Michigan provided him with the legislative experience a governor needs. He understands the process, he knows how to build a coalition, he’s done it. One of the biggest criticisms of Gov. Jennifer Granholm is not a lack of ideas but the inability to bring them to fruition. …

“Hoekstra’s West Michigan practicality will keep things simple and accountable in the Legislature and throughout government. A straightforward guy who believes government should follow common sense, Hoekstra pledges to hold state officials and employees accountable

“His business experience at Herman Miller enables him to talk the talk with both management and labor. He gets what’s troubling business, and he understands the needs of workers. He also knows the importance of marketing, which Michigan desperately needs.”

Captain Hoekstra Leads Big in Individual Donors

Great news!

The Detroit Free Press just posted a story entitled Hoekstra leads big in individual donors

Here are some of the quotes from the story:
What the applications showed was that Hoekstra, of Holland, may be eligible for more than $700,000 based on 6,862 individual contributions.

Compare that to the 2,813 individual contributions reported by Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard; the 1,151 contributions reported by Attorney General Mike Cox and the 887 donors reported by state Sen. Tom George – and Hoekstra’s lead is a big one. (Rick Snyder, the other chandidate, is ineligible for public funds because, says the Michigan Campaign Finance Network’s Rich Robinson, he has spent more than $300,000 of his own money on his campaign.)

There's more at the link, but this is great news. Keep it up everyone! With only 12 days until the primary, the time couldn't be any better for you to make a donation to the campaign to help push Pete over the finish line!

Mitt Romney Comes to Michigan Again to Aid Pete Hoekstra

Yesterday was a great day for Captain Hoekstra. Tons of pictures and links to audio/video can be found here.

Early in the morning, Dr. James Dobson endorsed Pete and the Hoekstra campaign began airing a radio ad of the endorsement which can be heard here. Soon after that announcement, brace yourselves… The Michigan Teamsters announced their support of Pete Hoekstra. When you add those endorsements to the likes of David Barton (constitutional expert and founder of Wallbuilders), Jim DeMint, Newt Gingrich, Former Speaker Dennis Hastert, Rick Santorum, and many others, Pete is putting together the most impressive coalition I can remember seeing in Michigan politics.

Next came the first of two fundraisers Mitt attended with Pete. The first fundraiser was in Grosse Point at the beautiful home of the Liggett family.

This event was very well attended and organized. The food was fantastic as well. When Pete came in with Mitt, he remarked that he was blown away by the attendance. There was an overflow room with an audio feed of the remarks Mitt and Pete gave to the audience. The campaign also distributed more yard signs than they anticipated which was great to see.

Then, in between the first and second fundraiser, Mitt and Pete met up with Candice Miller at a press stop at American Coney Island in Detroit. They talked to a lot of business owners about the problems they are facing in Michigan.

Finally, after some more positive poll numbers for the Hoekstra campaign were released, the second fundraiser began.

This event was also very successful. Mitt used to live down the street from the Kiriluk family where this event was held. Several people sent in money to the Hoekstra campaign for this event even though they could not attend in person. Congressman Hoekstra is extremely fortunate, thankful, and deserving of all the help Mitt and the Free & Strong America PAC has given him. Today was just another example of a plethora of examples we can point to of Mitt doing everything he can to bring America back. Think about this: Mitt has endorsed over 100 candidates for the 2010 elections and has been doing approximately three personal appearances a day for months now. Mitt’s hard work is going to be paying dividends for our entire country for years to come.

If you live in Michigan, please sign up to join Team Hoekstra for a statewide door-to-door campaign called Super Saturday (July 17th). Even if you can’t come, try to recruit some people who can.

Also, no matter where you live in the U.S., even a $10 donation will go a long way to helping Congressman Hoekstra win the Republican nomination to be the next Governor of the state of Michigan. The Hoekstra campaign has been outspent by a huge margin, but Congressman Hoekstra has made the most of his resources and has maintained a lead despite the millions of dollars being spent by his opponents. Until this week, the Hoekstra campaign had spent only $5,000 total in television ads. Please join Mitt’s PAC and make a donation to Pete if you can.

Help Us get Pete a New Couch

Sleeping on a couch isn’t very comfortable.
But Pete didn’t go to Washington to get comfortable.

For 18 years as a Michigan congressman, Pete Hoekstra has slept on his office couch in Washington. He didn’t want to get too comfortable there because, for Pete, Michigan is home.

And as our congressman, he's been watching our pennies in Washington. In fact, Pete has been recognized year after year for his record on reducing taxes and spending by organizations like Americans for Tax Reform, the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, and the National Federation of Small Business.

Pete knows that, in these challenging times, it's more important than ever that our leaders in Lansing are watching our pennies, too. That's why Pete's running for Governor. He knows Michigan needs leadership in Lansing that will cut bureaucracy, simplify our tax code and free hard working Michigan families, business owners and entrepreneurs to innovate, invest, build and succeed.

Michigan needs Pete Hoekstra.
“People can’t believe I’ve slept on my couch in DC for 18 years. But I didn’t want to get too comfortable in Washington. I knew that I worked IN DC, but FOR the people of Michigan.”

—Pete Hoekstra

Michigan needs a leader who works FOR the people and against government waste. Pete Hoekstra has the background—and priorities—to get the job done. We need your help to get Pete into the Governor’s office ... and maybe, even, to buy him a new couch (one that can double as a bed).

Can you help put Pete on the job for Michigan with your donation of $50, $75 or even $100?

Pete Hoekstra Opens up Commanding Lead in New Poll for GOP Nomination for Michigan Governor

Exclusive Detroit Free Press Poll

A recent flurry of campaign advertising in the Republican gubernatorial primary has not dislodged U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra as the front-runner, but Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder would be the GOP’s strongest candidate in the fall, a Free Press/WXYZ-TV poll shows.

Hoekstra maintains a solid lead among Republicans with 30% of likely primary voters, followed by Attorney General Mike Cox (18%), Snyder (17%), Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard (16%) and state Sen. Tom George (2%).

Except for George, any of the Republicans have significant leads over either of the two Democrats, House Speaker Andy Dillon and Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero.

Pete Releases TV ad in Response to Attacks

It was inevitable that Pete was going to be attacked after being the front-runner for so long, but the pathetic and ridiculous nature of the attacks should tell us all we need to know. Pete is leading in the polls for a reason...he's the best candidate to bring Michigan back! If you haven't seen it yet, here's the video:

I find this to be a great ad because it doesn't resort to the mud-slinging that has poisoned our politics for far too long. It addresses the attacks made by others, but it focuses on a positive vision for what Pete is the man to get Michigan back on track. We can learn a lot about a candidate based on their friends, and Pete has surrounded himself with great people like the Family Research Council, Mitt Romney, David Barton, and so many more!

Hoekstra Takes Aim at Obama on Day of President's Address to Michigan Grads

Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) launched a preemptive attack on President Barack Obama on Saturday, warning the president to heed Michigan's poor economic condition while he's in the state.

Hoekstra, who's running for governor of Michigan, said he welcomed Obama to the state, where the president will deliver the commencement address at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, but said Obama should also look around in the state for the effects of policies Hoekstra had said adversely affected the state's economy.

"Today, President Obama will deliver the commencement address at the University of Michigan, my alma mater," Hoekstra said in the weekly Republican radio address. "I join with Michiganders across the state in welcoming President Obama to our home."

“We also welcome the opportunity to show the president – first-hand – the painful plight of the people of Michigan," the congressman added.

The president chose to deliver the speech at Michigan to emphasize the role of education in growing the economy, the White House said in a statement previewing the speech.

"President Obama will challenge graduates to write the next chapter in our nation's great story," the statement said. "He will ask them to eschew partisan rancor and come together to move the country forward as generations of Americans facing critical moments in our history have before them."

Obama will visit a state hit especially hard by the current recession. The state's unemployment rate stands at 14.9 percent through the end of March, and the administration had to take drastic steps in 2009 to bail out General Motors and Chrysler, two main contributors to the state's traditional auto economy.

Hoekstra took aim at the president for what he said were unkept promises on ending bailouts and the effects of the stimulus, saying Michigan voters have little reason to trust the president.

"Republicans are standing with the American people and the people of Michigan by fighting for an end to permanent bailouts, ending wasteful Washington spending, and proposing a plan that would address the root causes of the financial crisis," he said. "We are standing for real solutions."

"Today’s graduates at the University of Michigan are looking for the economic freedom and opportunity of every previous American generation," the congressman, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, added. "Let’s give it to them."

Mitt Romney Campaigns for Pete Hoekstra (videos)

Mitt Romney on Pete Hoekstra: He 'will do what it takes to get Michigan moving again
By Monica Scott of the Grand Rapids Press
April 28, 2010, 2:27PM

GRAND RAPIDS - Mitt Romney, former Massachusetts governor and Michigan native, today helped Congressman Pete Hoekstra fire up supporters of his gubernatorial campaign.

"There is nothing holding back Michigan besides its government," said Romney, a leading contender for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. "Pete will do what it takes to actually get Michigan moving again."

More than 100 people gathered at DeVos Place to hear short speeches and mingle with Romney and Hoekstra, R-Holland.

Remarks centered on getting government out of the way so the state and country can thrive.

"Let's get bureaucracy out of the way, shrink the size of government and fix the tax code,'' Hoekstra said

The two men go a ways back: Hoekstra had endorsed Romney during his presidential campaign in 2008.

The congressman continues to lead his opponents for the nomination with 28 percent support among likely GOP primary voters, according to the April Rasmussen Reports survey. However, the survey shows nearly one-out-of-three primary voters or 32 percent are still undecided.

Businessman Rick Snyder was at 14 percent, state Attorney General Mike Cox again earned 13 percent of the vote, and Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard is at 9 percent. The report does not reference the other candidate in the race specifically, state Sen. Tom George, R-Kalamazoo, but said 5 percent of primary voters said they prefer some other candidate in the race.

Tickets for the event were $100 per person, $25 for students and veterans and $5,000 per host.

Special Michigan Event with Pete Hoekstra & Mitt Romney April 28th

Please consider attending this event April 28 and invite some of your Michigan friends to attend as well. If you look at Mitt’s West Michigan Leadership Team, you’ll notice that Congressman Hoekstra is the very first person listed on Mitt’s West Michigan leadership team for the 2008 primaries. Mitt Romney has thanked Pete on several occasions for supporting him so early during Mitt’s run for the presidency and especially marveled at how many people Pete contacted in Iowa going door to door on behalf of Mitt. When Mitt won the primary, look who was one of the main guests there celebrating the victory: Look at Middle Video

Mitt and Pete go back even further than that. While reading Mitt’s book Turnaround, I noticed that one of the companies that helped get the Olympics back on track shortly after Mitt was Herman Miller which Pete was in charge of for years before he became a congressman.

Long story short, Pete has been there for Mitt for years and now Mitt is repaying the favor as best he can. Mitt supports Pete in his run for governor of Michigan. Pete has been leading the polls for a few months now, but he has some well-funded competition in the republican primary. This event will not only be a way to give a little financial boost to Pete’s campaign, it will also be a great chance to meet the next governor of the state of Michigan and the next President of the United States.

Thanks everyone! I hope you’re having a wonderful spring so far!

U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra participated in a public forum Monday evening at the Birch Run Expo Center.

PETE HOEKSTRA WINS DEBATE - DEMONSTRATES WHY HE'S IN THE LEAD

April 13, 2010

Holland, MI - Republican Gubernatorial candidate Pete Hoekstra impressed the crowd at the Bay Area Republican candidate debate this evening in Birch Run. He was the clear winner, demonstrating a clear conservative vision for Michigan and a strong grasp of the facts.

"I enjoyed the event this evening. It provided an opportunity for me to articulate what Michigan will look like under a Hoekstra administration. And it provided a clear opportunity to talk directly to Republican primary voters who are looking for someone who has the experience and guts to turn Michigan around," Hoekstra said.

Hoekstra presented a strong set of responses to questions dealing with jobs and economic development. He also explained in detail how Michigan's tax structure needs to change by reducing taxes and making government smaller. He specifically detailed his record of supporting tax cuts, protecting the second amendments, and standing up for states rights.

"I can promise this; under a Hoekstra administration, the tax burden on Michigan citizens will be less than it is today and government will be smaller. I have a long and proud record of supporting tax cuts and will bring my conservative government philosophy to Lansing," Hoekstra said.
"At a time when so many Michigan voters are looking for a different direction, I felt this event was crucial in allowing me as a candidate to outline my vision," Hoekstra said. "Unfortunately, two of my competitors didn't feel this event or the Mid-Michigan and Tri-Cities region was important enough to appear on the stage with the rest of us."

Michigan's Next Governor Stars in Auto-Tune the News

Never fear, Pete Hoekstra was speaking about the amount of waste in government. However, that doesn't stop this clip from being hilarious and also a great way to give some more free publicity to Pete's campaign for governor of Michigan.
