Pete Hoekstra Opens up Commanding Lead in New Poll for GOP Nomination for Michigan Governor

Exclusive Detroit Free Press Poll

A recent flurry of campaign advertising in the Republican gubernatorial primary has not dislodged U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra as the front-runner, but Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder would be the GOP’s strongest candidate in the fall, a Free Press/WXYZ-TV poll shows.

Hoekstra maintains a solid lead among Republicans with 30% of likely primary voters, followed by Attorney General Mike Cox (18%), Snyder (17%), Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard (16%) and state Sen. Tom George (2%).

Except for George, any of the Republicans have significant leads over either of the two Democrats, House Speaker Andy Dillon and Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero.
